How to Learn Bra Types and Styles

Being confident with your body is one of the sexiest things a woman can do, and wearing a good bra will help. With so many styles on the market these days, women must consider not only proper fit and cup size, but an almost endless variety of colors and fabrics. Knowing which bra to buy for your particular style and body type can often be a challenge.

Step
1

Consider a full-cup bra if you have large breasts. Full-cup bras can be very feminine and lacy while still offering good support. This is the basic bra style and will provide full coverage. A well-fitting full-cup underwire bra will provide the best support for larger breasts.

Step
2

Show a little more cleavage with a push-up bra or demi bra which only covers the lower three-quarters of the breast, while pushing them together and lifting them up. These bras are padded, cut very low and angled to produce maximum cleavage. They look great with, but still provide good support.

Step
3

Show off a smooth line under tighter-fitting clothing with a seamless bra or T-shirt bra. The cup part of seamless bras are made of one piece and has a smoother line. They are constructed of soft, smooth fabric and don't offer as much support as a seamed bra. They look great under any type of clothes, from elegant evening wear to comfy T-shirts.

Step
4

Enhance smaller breasts with a slightly padded contour bra. Padded bras are feminine and fashionable. and may provide only a hint of padding, or a a larger amount of a bustier look.

Step
5

Show off bare shoulders with a strapless bra. Strapless bras need to fit exactly right in order to remain in place, and aren't a good idea if you plan to be very active.

Step
6

Buy a versatile convertible bra if you want a bra that will accommodate several different necklines. Convertible bras, also known as multiway bras, can be worn as a regular two-strap bra, or as a halter neck along with a halter dress or top. They can be crossed in the back to accomodate a plunging neckline, a fashionable racer back, or the straps can be removed entirely for a strapless or off-the-shoulder gown.

Step
7

Support your breasts during exercise with a
sports
bra. Sports bras are usually slip-on and have no hardware. They are often made with special softer seams that won't rub or chafe. Sports bras are available in many levels of supports to a gentle support to maximum support for very strenuous activities.

Tips & Warnings

No matter what type of bra you choose it is important to make sure that it fits properly. The best way to determine your correct bra size is to have yourself fitted by a professional at a lingerie shop. Cups that are too small will compress your breasts and cause them to overflow from the sides and top of the cups. Cups that are too large will create puckers and wrinkles that will show underneath your clothing. Some manufacturers are now offering half-size cups.

Always try on a new bra before purchasing to ensure that it looks right under your clothes.
